Cultural adaptation: Teletubbies TV scripts

Geared toward pre-schoolers 1-4 years of age, the children’s show “Teletubbies” created an undeniable phenomenon, appearing on European TV stations between 2000-2004. During this time, RTBF – the Belgian public television – was no exception in adding the popular series to its line of children’s programming.

In just under one year, the Virtual Words team translated the scripts of 500+ episodes of this UK-born series into French, for broadcast on RTBF. Keeping in tune with the original style and characteristics of the creators, we strived to capture the culturally relevant “child speak” tone and sweet humor of the Teletubbies characters to be discovered and enjoyed by the new French-speaking toddler audience.
